Warm Autumn, Warm Flavours

The Saturday morning sun greeted us with its golden light. The air felt warm and comfortable, around 15°C a pleasant surprise for the start of autumn, with just a hint of color beginning to appear on the leaves.

Suddenly, Sinyo came to me with excited eyes, "Come on, let's get ready and go to Prahran! I heard there's an Indonesian event, and we can look for some tasty Indonesian snacks!"

Without thinking too much, I immediately agreed. Our plan for this morning was simple: to find some delicious Indonesian food from Diana's Kitchen. They're quite well known in Melbourne for their tasty Indonesian cuisine, and I couldn't wait to taste something that would remind me of home.

We quickly ordered chicken satay with rice cakes (lontong). The peanut sauce looked so tempting. We also couldn't resist the display of traditional snacks. Crispy pastel (a kind of fried pastry), delicious risol (crepes filled with savory ingredients), sweet fried bananas, and savory stuffed tofu all ended up in our bag.

With our snacks in hand, we found a park bench that was shady but still had the warm morning sunlight touching it. It was there, peacefully, that we enjoyed every bite. The savory taste of the satay with the soft rice cakes and the rich flavor of the peanut sauce were truly a treat. The other snacks were just as good, each with its own authentic taste.

While we were eating, we took a moment to look around. We could see the very first touches of autumn in the trees, with just a few leaves beginning to change color. It was a subtle but beautiful sign of the season.

This day felt so simple, but the happiness we felt was very real. Besides satisfying our craving for Indonesian food, we also got to enjoy the early beauty of autumn. It was truly a perfect morning.
